Research Projects

While a substantial number of funded research projects have been secured over the past 20 years, the following two projects are key recent projects that address the realities of architecture and urbanism in the context of Gulf cities.

Housing Transformations and Multiculturalism

In 2015 a major project was awarded to the research team by the National Priorities Research Program (NPRP) in order to carry out an in-depth investigation of housing dynamics within emerging multicultural societies in Gulf cities. This project is an important contribution toward the achievement of the Qatar National Research Strategy (QNRS), which is part of the Qatar National Vision. This NPRP project is initiated by the University of Strathclyde in collaboration with Qatar University. For more infomation please visit the project's page

Knowledge Economies and Urban Qualities

In 2011 a key project was awarded by Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF). It aimed at investigating challenges and potentials facing the urban development process of the city of Doha to enhance its urban qualities in the context of its emerging knowledge economy. As a collaboration between Qatar University and TU-Munich the project places emphasis on in-depth analyses of the inter-dependencies between economic diversification and spatial transformations.
